Scrap-It 2

Pictures make memories. Students in Mrs. Julie Marzzacco’s SCRAP-IT 2 class for students in grades 5 through 8 are making scrapbooks to save those memories.

Some kids were working on their 9th page by the second day! Marzzacco was doing a wonderful job of helping the kids, going through each scrapbook page by page.

Riché Tabatabai explained, “I picked this class because I have been scrap booking for 4 years, and I really like it.” When asked how her scrapbook was going, she answered, “It was [going] very well, and I had fun.” She also said that her favorite part of Scrap-It 2 was that she liked stickering  because she had a sticker collection.

Rebecca Hutson explained, “I picked this class because it’s fun, and I like to make the scrapbook.” Her scrapbook “was [going] very well; I got 6 pages done by the second day.” She also said that her favorite part of Scrap-it 2 was the layouts and look at the pictures. Lauren Gruenhagen explained, “I picked this class because it looked fun, and I really enjoyed it.” Gruenhagen had done 9 pages by the second day also. She loves Scrap-it 2 because there were not a lot of rules, and “you can pretty much do whatever.”

Most participants agreed that they would love to do this class again next year.

Animal Planet

Kids in room 120 of the Heim building had a blast dissecting owl pellets during their class, ANIMAL PLANET. The students especially liked looking for the bones in the owl pellets.

Twila Dodds stated that her favorite animal was a barn owl. Her favorite part of Animal Planet was looking at owl pellets. Dodds said that she enjoyed the class and would love to take it again.

Amanda Quintana explained that her favorite animals were birds. Quintana stated that her favorite parts of Animal Planet were all the interesting activities. She also said that she likes this class a lot and would love to do it again.

The class learned a lot about soil, too. After their lesson, they made mud pies to represent the soil. Then they made grass heads: they put dirt and grass seed in a sock which they decorated. When they take their socks home, they will have to soak them in water for their grass “hair” to grow.

They made a variety of stained glass bugs one day. They used paint to color different sections, decorating the glass bugs. When they were dry, they added a hanger to the back so they could hang them on a window.

The last day Animal Planet set off volcanoes, and they looked at “bathroom disposal” to identify what kind of animal it came from, according to Ms. Pamela Tabatabai, the teacher.
