WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Two hundred ninety-four students graduated from Lycoming College during its 161st commencement ceremony held Sunday, May 10, at 1 p.m. on the College’s Quad. Dr. Elijah Anderson, a distinguished Yale University sociologist, served as the keynote speaker. Dr. Betty McCall, associate professor of sociology at the College, presented him with a Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degree. Amber Rock of Chambersburg, Pa., gave the greetings from the senior class. Her speech was chosen by a committee of faculty, staff and seniors.
The speaker for baccalaureate, held Saturday, May 9, in the Recreation Center, was Lycoming alumnus the Rev. Kenneth R. Arthur.
Before retiring in 2006, he served for 35 years as executive director of the United Methodist Home for Children, Inc., in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Arthur earned a bachelor’s degree from Lycoming in 1958.
