Lycoming College senior showcases artwork at local business

Zurowski artRobert “Bob” Zurowski, a senior at Lycoming College, is displaying his artwork in downtown Montoursville at Bea’s Sweets and Treats, which is a bakery and grain shop that displays the work of local artists.

Zurowski is showcasing 16 different flower photos, in different sizes and configurations, which he developed in Lynn Estomin’s advanced digital imaging class.

Zurowski says that he chose to photograph flowers because he found that putting a light source behind them created a glow similar to that in stained-glass windows, a medium which he has enjoyed working with in the past. His goal was to commemorate this older style of artwork with a modern twist using a chiaroscuro technique and color abstractions.

Zurowski recently earned honorable mention in the Photographer Forum’s 29th Annual College Photography Contest, co-sponsored by Nikon, for his photograph of Catedral de Santa Creu i Santa Eulalia, the main cathedral in Barcelona, Spain. Photographer’s Forum is a quarterly magazine dedicated to communication and publication experience among emerging professional photographers. The magazine’s college contest is open to all high school, college and university students around the world. Contest finalists will have their photo published in the book “Best of College Photography Annual 2009” and receive a subscription to the magazine. Zurowski is the husband of Dr. Sandra Kingery, an associate professor of Spanish at the College.
