WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Violinist Kenneth Sarch and pianist Yvonne Mitchell will perform at Lycoming College Thursday, Sept. 24, at noon in the Mary Lindsay Welch Honors Hall. The program theme is “The Violinist as Composer” and features music by Tartini, Ysaye, Kreisler, Wieniawski, Paganini, Sarasate and Kroll and ends with Vieuxtemps’ entertaining "Variations on Yankee Doodle.”
Sarch has been delighting audiences near and far with his engaging style of performing. His international recitals and solo appearances with orchestra have earned him rave reviews. He is often invited to present master classes and clinics both here and abroad. His teachers have included Ivan Galamian, Dorothy DeLay, Robert Koff and Roman Totenberg. He serves as professor of violin and viola at Mansfield University and conductor of the Mansfield University String Chamber Orchestra. His awards have included four USIA Arts America Grants to Panama, Brazil, Israel and Jordan, and two Fulbright Scholar Awards to Brazil and Bolivia. In 2003, Sarch was awarded the Citation of Excellence in Music Education – College by the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association. For the past three years, he was appointed to the Fulbright Peer Review Board by the Council of International Exchange of Scholars in Washington, D.C.
Mitchell has been performing to enthusiastic audiences for many years as pianist for concert artists and choral ensembles. She is a graduate of Lycoming College where she studied piano with Dr. Gary Boerckel. She teaches on the piano faculty at the College, serves as accompanist for the singing group Gesangverein Harmonia and is organist at St. Boniface and St. Anne churches in Williamsport. Mitchell has taught on the faculty of the Mansfield University summer String Fling Camp and has performed as pianist for the Williamsport Symphony in various concerts. She was the pianist for the guest master class of internationally renowned flutist Eugenia Zuckerman and has recorded as pianist and organist as soloist and accompanist for numerous vocalists and instrumentalists.
