WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Lycoming College will celebrate its annual Homecoming and Reunion Weekend Oct. 9-11. The theme for this year’s celebration is “A Return to the Sweet Life at Lyco.”
The festivities for alumni begin with the Thomas B. Croyle ’70 Memorial Golf Tournament Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the White Deer Golf Course in Montgomery. The “A Sculpture and Stained Glass Walking Tour of Williamsport,” with Dr. Amy Golahny, professor of art, begins at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building lobby.
The Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in downtown Williamsport. This year’s inductees are Lauren Evangelist (lacrosse), Jessica Foster (swimming), Layne Haverstock (volleyball), Andrew Lausier (wrestling), Shawn Rosa (lacrosse), Christine Koernig (tennis) and James Tkach (football). Reservations are required.
At 8 p.m. Entertainment on the Quad begins as the campus community will enjoy the sounds of alumni band Full Circle, followed by the 4th annual Homecoming fireworks display at 9 p.m., and Baltimore-based band The Hint at approximately 9:15 p.m.
On Saturday, the Homecoming Welcome Reception will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Burchfield Lounge, Wertz Student Center. An open house in the College Archives, Academic Center, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.
The annual Alumni Brunch and Awards Presentation will be held in the Jane Schultz Dining Room, Wertz Student Center at 10:30 a.m. This year’s award recipients are Dr. Marina Vernalis (Angela R. Kyte Outstanding Alumna Award), V. Chapman-Smith (Outstanding Achievement Award), and Dr. John Piper Jr. (Dale V. Bower Service Award).
New this year will be a Tailgate Picnic on the Quad from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The picnic will consist of grilled and cold foods as well as assorted drinks and desserts. The cost is $6.50 a person.
Black Tie Affair, an a cappella group comprised of Lycoming alumni, will perform 11 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
The Homecoming Parade, which features an expanded route, begins at 12:30 p.m. It will start at the Skeath Hall parking lot, travel through campus and Brandon Park and conclude at David Person Field, where the Warrior football team will host Albright College at 1:30 p.m. The 2009 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime.
From 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the All-Alumni Social Hour will take place at 33 East in Williamsport.
At 8 p.m., there will be a Campaign for a Brighter Future Dessert Reception in the Mary Lindsey Welch Honors Hall. Also at 8 p.m., the Theatre Department will present “Antigone” by Sophocles in the Mary L. Welch Theatre. Tickets may be purchased at the Mary L.
