The Lycoming College Clean Water Institute recently received a grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection for a project that provides environmental and ecological education to area teachers about the Susquehanna River Watershed.
The nearly $12,000 grant will help the Clean Water Institute put on at least three workshops during the next two years for teachers, who will be provided with materials to take back to their classrooms. The grant will be used to pay for the materials as well as support an intern from the College.
The Department of Environmental Protection’s environmental education grant program provided grants to 78 schools, universities and nonprofit organizations across the state in order to increase environmental literacy among students and adults.
The Clean Water Institute was founded in 1999 to be a resource on water issues and a partner of watershed groups for education and the protection of the water quality of the West Branch of the Susquehanna watershed.
