8-19-09

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Lycoming College has been named by Forbes.com as one of “America’s Best Colleges” for 2009. Lycoming is among a select group of 600 schools in the ranking, which includes 217 public and 383 private colleges and universities.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, there are more than 4,000 colleges in the United States. Forbes ranks only the top 15 percent or so of all undergraduate institutions. The rankings are based on the quality of education the institutions provide, the experience of the students and how much they achieve.

This is Forbes.com’s second ranking of “America’s Best Colleges.” The survey results were compiled by Forbes and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. The CCAP used data from a variety of sources, including student evaluations, number of prominent alumni, average amount of student debt after graduation, percentage of students graduating in four years and the number of students or faculty who have won nationally competitive awards.
