Lycoming College to host Family Weekend Sept. 11-13

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Lycoming College will host its annual Family Weekend Sept. 11-13, with a variety of educational and entertainment events.

Registration will be held 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday in Pennington Lounge, Academic Center, and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday in Bell Lobby, just west of Pennington Lounge.

Battle of the BootTwo athletic events are scheduled during Family Weekend. Lycoming’s men’s soccer team will hold its annual “Battle of the Boot” game versus Susquehanna at the Shangraw Athletic Complex Friday at 5 p.m. The Warrior football team will face Rowan University at David Person Field on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

On Friday, family members can join their student in the classroom, where they will have the opportunity to experience the learning environment and talk with professors.

The annual Family Weekend Concert, which includes the musical talents of the Lycoming College Choir and Concert Band, will be held from 7-8 p.m. in Clarke Chapel.

2008 Faculty Open HouseOn Saturday at 9:15 a.m., Regina Collins, assistant dean for freshman, will present “Parenting the College Freshman, Part II” in the Jane Schultz Room, Wertz Student Center. Parents will also have the opportunity to meet with Lycoming’s professors at the Faculty Open House in Pennington Lounge at 10 a.m.

The sisters of Gamma Delta Sigma will host the 19th annual Brandy Lee Sudol Auction at 11 a.m. at the East Hall Coffeehouse. This auction is held in memory of Brandy Lee Sudol, who died of Hodgkin’s disease. All proceeds raised by the auction will be divided between a memorial scholarship and the Salvation Army.

Beth Ann Scruggs, a 1990 Lycoming graduate, will give a walking tour of historic downtown Williamsport at 11 a.m. The Legacy Luncheon, a celebratory gathering for legacy students and their alumni parents or grandparents, will be noon in the Jane Schultz Room.

2008 Hiawatha TourA Hiawatha Riverboat Tour will be held from 2-4 p.m. The annual Family Feud Tournament, hosted by the Black Student Union, will be held at 4 p.m. in Heim Building G-09. Family Weekend Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jane Schultz Room, Wertz Student Center and will be followed by the Family Entertainment event at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, a Protestant ecumenical service will be held in the College’s Clarke Chapel at 10:30 a.m., with  guest speaker Rev. Gwen Bernstine, a 1978 Lycoming graduate, and music by the Lycoming College Choir .

Other weekend events include a family movie each evening at 8 and a Sunday brunch in Pennington Lounge from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The Streeter Campus Store will be open during the weekend. Hours are 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Sunday.
