Lycoming College alumnus Doug Keiper and his wife, Dawn, have established the Douglas J. and Dawn M. Keiper Endowment, a multi-million dollar estate bequest that is one of the largest bequests in the College’s history.

“Lycoming College is very grateful for Doug and Dawn Keiper’s commitment to the College,” said Lycoming President James E. Douthat. “Their endowment will help secure the Lycoming experience for years to come.”

The Keipers, who reside in Celebration, Fla., just outside Orlando, have designated 75 percent of their bequest to endow varsity athletics - specifically the football and wrestling programs - while the remainder of the fund will endow programs in the College’s department of education.

“Mindful of the fact that the cost of private higher education is already beyond the reach of most families, it is our hope that the income from this portion [athletics] of the endowment will serve as revenue to maintain and grow the institution’s support for varsity athletics,” said Keiper. “We are also asking that special emphasis be given to the support of programs in early childhood and elementary education. We are very proud of the fact that it’s going to a great place in Lycoming College.”

Keiper, who graduated from Lycoming in 1968 with a degree in history and mathematics, is the regional vice president of Mericle Commercial Real Estate Service’s Central Pennsylvania brokerage in Williamsport. He began his career by serving in several administrative positions at the College, including assistant dean of students, assistant wrestling coach, associate dean of students and associate director of admissions. Following his tenure at Lycoming, Keiper became director of economic development for the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, a commercial loan officer for Northern Central Bank (now M&T Bank) and then worked for 12 years as vice president of sales for Lundy Construction in Williamsport.

Dawn spent more than 30 years as an elementary school teacher in the Montoursville Area School District.
