Lycoming student awarded American Society for Microbiology Fellowship

Brittane Strahan, a junior biology major at Lycoming College, has been awarded an Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) to conduct microbiology research at the College with Dr. Jeff Newman, assistant professor of biology, during summer 2008. This extremely competitive fellowship award provides a $4,000 stipend for 10 weeks of full-time research with a mentor at a student’s home institution.

Strahan will continue her honor’s project research using molecular techniques to investigate Microbial Biofilm Community Development in a Wastewater Treatment Sequencing Batch Reactor, manufactured by Cromaglass, a local company.

Strahan will present her summer results at the 2009 ASM Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

A resident of Williamsport, Strahan is a graduate of Warrior Run High School
