Dr. Neil Boyd, assistant professor of business administration at Lycoming College, has been named the inaugural editor of the Organizational Studies section of “The Community Psychologist,” the professional newsletter of the American Psychological Association, Division 27. The first column on organization studies will appear in the publication later this year.
In addition, Boyd was instrumental in petitioning the Division 27 executive board to create the first-ever interest group in organization studies. He will serve as the chair of the group, which will give scholars and practitioners a space to share knowledge at national conference meetings and is another step in showcasing the importance of organization studies literature in community psychology. Boyd has gained national prominence for his writing in exploring the intersection between organization studies and community psychology.
Boyd’s interest in the topic began in 2002, when he co-authored an article with Dr. Holly Angelique, associate professor of community psychology at Pennsylvania State University-Harrisburg, titled “Rekindling the Discourse on Organization Studies and Community Psychology.” The article showed that there was a lack of scholarly activity in this important domain. Since then, he has edited a special issue on the topic in “The Journal of Community Psychology,” published several articles on the topic and organized symposia, paper presentations and panel discussions at the international biennial meetings of Division 27 in Champaign, Ill., and Pasadena, Calif.
The Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) is an international organization devoted to advancing theory, research and social action. Its members are committed to promoting health and empowerment and to preventing problems in communities, groups and individuals. SCRA serves many different disciplines that focus on community research and action.
