GREETINGS

Hey everyone! This is Adam Greger. When I’m not making the two and a half hour drive up from Blue Bell, Pa (about 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia) I make Lycoming my home.

Like many students, I did not know exactly what I wanted to study. Luckily, Lycoming’s liberal arts education made it very easy for me to taste a little bit of everything. Once I joined the college band and choir, I knew where my heart was, music. I had also thought about becoming a teacher, but I wasn’t sure if it was the right decision for me. With the excellent staff in the music department, I was able to decide what career I was heading towards, and that was being a music teacher.

Being the only student from my high school class to attend Lycoming, I was a bit skeptical of what to expect. The plethora of organizations made meeting new people a simple task. I did however notice that the music department did not currently have a jazz ensemble, which is one of the most important aspects in my high school life. A few friends and I that I met decided that we wanted to have a jazz band on campus. Within a few months, we worked hard together to get the group started, and we produced the first ever Jazz Ensemble at Lycoming College! Anything really is possible!

Throughout my collegiate career, I learned so many different things about music that I did not know. I also had many opportunities to practice, rehearse, perform and experience music on and about campus. Having the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra a mere five or six blocks down the street made my experience even better! I even had the chance to start observing music in the classroom setting beginning my sophomore year! It was unbelievable!

Lycoming College has brought a whole world of music and knowledge to my front door. Now that my senior year has arrived, I KNOW that I am prepared to be a Music Educator because of the support, encouragement and content knowledge that makes anyone proud to say that you help teach the youth of tomorrow.
