1. Clicking on View>Reports> Site Summary will give you a page similar to the following:
2. Clicking on the Unlinked files link will give you a list of the files that
cannot be reached by starting from your home page. This is a starting point to
find files that possibly are not used. There may be a valid reason for pages not
to link from your home page such as the template pages or pages you have set up
for a specific audience, so look at the files to make sure you don't need them
anymore before deleting them.
3. For most departments, when we moved to FrontPage we imported all of your
old information into the folder named current in your folder list.
This is another good place to look for files that are no longer needed.
4. Click on the down arrow by Reports to get back to the summary page or
other report pages.
5. Click on View>Hyperlinks then click on a page in your folder list.
You will see what pages link to this page and what pages link from this page.
In the example below index.htm is the file we are checking, scd_f01tes2.txt is a
broken link shown by the break in the line.
Note: These links only
tell you what is linked within your own dept web page. Other dept. may
have links to your page but they will NOTshow up here.
FYI: The reports page broken hyperlinks is also a good way to check for
broken hyperlinks. Another way to check for broken links is to use the
program Xenu. This program can be found in Application Explorer under All.
to run it click File> Check url. Enter your full url
http://www.lycoming.edu/deptname/
If you have questions about running it you can call Diana Cleveland at 4160.
