PRAXIS TESTS
Students seeking teacher certification in Pennsylvania are required to pass specific Praxis tests. The Praxis Series tests are comprised of --
1. Praxis I – Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST), which measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics.
2. Praxis II Subject Assessments, which measure knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge.
Lycoming College requires students in the education program to take the Praxis I tests at the time you apply for admission to the program. Provisional acceptance to the program may be given until these three tests are completed successfully. Praxis II tests are generally taken during the professional semester. All required Praxis tests must be passed before the application for certification can be submitted to PDE.
It is the student’s responsibility to obtain all necessary Praxis I and II registration information and material from the Education Department Office (Mrs. Horn) in D207/AC. It is required that all test registration be arranged with Mrs. Horn. Praxis seminars are held twice a year. Information regarding test dates, registration deadlines and special accommodations is available in D207/AC.
