Babysitting and Part-Time Jobs Assistance:
Career Services assists students in finding short-term or temporary employment working for faculty, administrators, and community members. Work such as baby-sitting, cleaning, shoveling snow, raking leaves, mowing grass, etc., is available through this service.
Career Assessment Instruments:
Career Services uses MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) and SIGI 3, a computerized self-assessment program which enables students to assess their values, interests and skills and link this information to occupational clusters, specific employment opportunities or graduate programs.
Career Resource Library:
Career Services Resource library provides detailed information on careers, employers, graduate schools, and study abroad. Information is available through videotaped career materials, personal presentation pamphlets, informational handouts, computerized and hard bound directories, and resume and cover letter samples.
Credential Files:
Credential files are kept in the Career Services office for every student requesting one. These files are kept for a minimum of 5 years and can be held longer if instructed to do so by the student. All files are confidential and may include recommendations, resume, SHARE program experiences, transcripts, and GRE scores. The Career Services will send information within credential files to employers, graduate schools and others, free of charge, upon request by the student or organization.
Educational Programming:
Career Services offers a variety of educational programs throughout the semester that are designed to enhance the career skills of our students. These programs include topics such as resume writing, interview preparation, social etiquette, graduate school preparation and real world transitions. Career Services staff members make themselves available to present a variety of topics to classes, student organizations, and faculty and staff.
Graduate School Information and Graduate Testing Information:
In conjunction with academic departments, the Career Services provides services which assist students through the graduate school search process. The center sponsors graduate school preparation programs, and graduate school resources such as: computerized and hard copy graduate school guides, scholarship and financial aid information, the graduate school application process and and test application and preparation.
Internet Career Search Assistance:
Career Services provides two high-speed computers for students to use to access the Internet to locate information pertinent to your career search. Graduate school information, job search strategies, resume databases, and help wanted advertisements from all over the world are a keystroke away. The Career Services staff is available to assist clients in making effective use of the Internet. The Career Services homepage is a great place to start your career search.
Job Hotline:
The job hotline provides regularly updated career information to Lycoming students and alumni through the Career Services homepage. Information concerning summer, part-time, and full-time jobs can be accessed through this web site.
Private Career Consultations:
Career Services staff work one-on-one with students to provide guidance and assistance throughout the four-year career development process. Appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins are always accepted.
Resume and Cover Letter Assistance:
Career Services staff assist students with the development of effective resumes and cover letters. Quality bond resume and cover letter paper and printing services are available within our office for a nominal charge.
S.H.A.R.E. (Students Having a Real Experience):
Students shadow a professional in the Williamsport or surrounding area. This provides an opportunity to learn about particular careers through observation, performance of assigned tasks, and discussion with their sponsors.
