GREETINGS

Hello! My name is Greg Coale and I’m a senior from Highland, Maryland just 20 miles west of Baltimore. It wasn’t too long ago that I was in your shoes looking for the “right” college. For me it was a tough decision deciding whether to attend a large university or a smaller college. In the end I chose a smaller college because of my interest in receiving a highly personalized experience. I must say that after three years, the decision to choose Lycoming was the best one I’ve ever made.

One of the largest benefits of the smaller college is the close relationships you form with professors and college administrators. Through my experiences with the business department and internship coordinator, Anne McMunn-Landon, I was able to obtain not just one, but two internships in my college career. The summer following my sophomore year I had an internship with a marketing firm in Baltimore, and was even able to advance to a leadership position as an account manager! This past summer I worked for Paradigm Management in Alexandria, VA, which helped me get an up-close and personal look at commercial real estate and development. And, I’m hopeful there may be a job for me at Paradigm when I graduate in May.

Another great benefit of attending Lycoming College is the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to get involved right away in their freshman year. In my first year I started a band and joined a fraternity, where my leadership capabilities were honed as I was elected recruitment chairman and Vice-President. I was also elected to the Student Senate as treasurer of the junior class where I served on various committees and even helped create the menu at JPs, our late night campus diner.

Personal relationships and small classes have been a real bonus for me. Professors here are challenging but supportive to the needs of individual students. I’ve been particularly impressed with Dr. Weaver in finance and Dr. Kolb in management. In fact, Dr. Kolb signed me on to serve with the Williamsport Chamber of Commerce as a member of College Town Committee.
