The business administration program at Lycoming College is distinctive, dynamic and innovative.
Our mission is to develop leaders who understand how business works and how business connects to society, the environment and the world. We fulfill this mission by providing a well-rounded business curriculum grounded in a liberal arts education:
- We provide in-depth education in the functional areas of business, including finance, marketing, management, international business, accounting, economics, information systems, human resources and business strategy.
- We stress business ethics and environmental sustainability, and how business relates to government, community and society.
- We develop each student’s capacity to think critically, to write clearly, to conduct research, and to appreciate diverse cultures and peoples.
- We get to know each of our students on a first-name basis and we involve students in our research, teaching and professional activities.
- We believe that for students to really understand how business works, they need “hands-on” experiences. We offer lots of internships, study abroad opportunities and student projects for local businesses. We also use “hands-on” learning methods in our classes so students can experience business practices rather than just read and hear about them.
This well-rounded education enables our graduates to pursue careers in many industries and fields – or to launch their own entrepreneurial ventures. Our graduates work for business enterprises, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, healthcare institutions and global ventures.
The business department coordinates internships with business, government and nonprofit organizations. Many of the internship sites are just a short walk from campus in downtown Williamsport, while summer internships may be located in other U.S. cities or abroad.[ Internships ]
The Department of Business Administration is part of the Institute for Management Studies (IMS), which also includes the accounting and economics departments. The IMS offers more internship opportunities, an executive speaker series, a management scholars program, and study abroad programs, including the Westminster Exchange Program.[ IMS ]
The business program is fully accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
