Twenty-eight members of the Lycoming College community spent 16 days touring Vietnam and Cambodia as part of May Term 2006. The group toured Hanoi, Hue, Danang, DaLat and Ho ChiMinh City, explored HaLong Bay by boat, photographed sunrise over Cameron Bay, bicycled through fishing villages in the Mekong Delta and climbed to the top of the temples of Angkor Wat. The trip included a visit to the Hanoi Art Academy and art galleries, the opportunity to meet Vietnamese artists and visit their homes and studios, and a visit to the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City.
Meredith Rishel	The children I photographed were captivated by my unusual (medium format) camera. I would let them look into the lens from above, so they could see the opposite of the image in the viewfinder.   Somewhere in the amusement, I got many good shots. This trip was amazing, and I am incredibly lucky and thankful to have been able to enjoy it.	The trip was organized by sculpture professor Howard Tran,who spent his childhood in Vietnam before immigrating to the US at the age of twelve.

I feel at home! I am finally in a environment where I look like everyone else and I am not a minority. I am amazed at how welcoming the people have been and I am in awe when I stand in front of all the temples. I can't believe it was my ancestors who created such beautiful artwork.		Visiting Vietnam was an amazing experience. The economy is booming, tourists are everywhere, but the culture is intact. This is something that I think is lost in America.The respect of elders is very prevalent and national pride is very noticeable. Not only have these people endured fighting and war for a thousand years and survived, they have an optimistic out look on life.
