Samantha Saltzer The Night Photography series explores the idea of transience through, as the title implies, a series of night photographs. The project explores the idea of trying to slow down in a fast-paced society and the fear of being left behind. It attempts to capture that feeling of loneliness that comes when one attempts to find their place in the ever-moving world. There is a sense of being caught in doldrums as an individual moves from place to place or stops, attempting to capture contentment. Night photography allows for interesting effects through long exposure, which can produce distortion of colors. This particular effect adds an ethereal, eerie quality to the images. None of the colors in any of the photographs have been altered from the original with the exception of general edits such as slight changes in saturation, exposure, contrast, brightness, etc. for the sake of general clarity. This project involved over half a dozen shoots and hundreds of pictures, however, only a select few captured the qualities the project strives to achieve. |
