HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RUNS FOR SUPPORT

On November 12, 2007, the Lycoming chapter of Habitat for Humanity hosted its yearly 5K run/walk around the college campus and local neighborhood.  The event included individual entries, teams of four, and Special Olympics as a new category.

Habitat at Lycoming has done great things over the past several years with one highlight being the completion of their own Habitat house right here in “Billtown.”  The service group is currently raising money to build their second house here in the Williamsport area.  The event benefits the college’s chapter which actively participates with the local Habitat for Humanity.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE OFFICE OF ADMISSIONS

NEW PROF BRINGS CHANGES TO THE COMM DEPARTMENT

The following is edited from an article by Mark Salinger that appeared in The Lycourier on November 15, 2007

Before all new equipment was purchased and all existing equipment was auctioned off, before parking lots turned into gardens and before the Communication Building received its make-over, the department made its first addition, Leah Bedrosian Peterson, new digital communications assistant professor.

Peterson was attracted to Lycoming College because the developments in the Communications Department gave her the opportunity to be part of the growth of a new program. Contributions to the department already include new audio and visual equipment, and more additions are on their way.

Peterson is also starting the First Annual Student Screening for her class's projects.

LYCOMING COLLEGE CONCERT BAND

Lycoming College has many avenues throughout the Williamsport area to display its talented students and their passions.  The 50-member Lycoming College Concert Band did just that at the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport on November 16, 2007.  Dr. Ciabattari, Assistant Professor of Music, directed his musicians to an astounding performance in a facility that's equally brilliant.  The 2,100 seat theatre has spanned all forms of music and entertainment since its opening in 1928.

The specialty for the evening included a piece composed by Anthony Suter which was co-commissioned for the Lycoming College bands. This group, which is open to all Lycoming students pending audition, concludes each year with an eastern continental tour.

LYCOMING COLLEGE THEATRE DEPARTMENT PRESENTS “THE UNDERPANTS”ADAPTED BY STEVE MARTIN

The Lycoming College Theatre department presented the play “The Underpants” on November 30 and December 1.  This play, which is based off of Carl Sternheim’s “Der Hose,” was recently made popular by the comedic Steve Martin.  The Lycoming version was directed by Jerry D. Allen, chair of the Theatre Department.  The play is based on the outcome of an embarrassing loss of clothing for the leading character, Louise.  This event catapults Louise into a twisted love affair with a poet, a barber, and her husband.  Junior Melissa Newman plays the part of Louise while others such as McGair Valois, Barry Schaub, Steve Ferguson, and Rebecca Schoeneberger round out the major characters.  Other members of the cast were made up of current Lycoming students who have a diversity of majors and minors here at the college.

The production was set in the Mary Welch Theatre which seats an audience of 204.  The thrust style theatre captivates and involves its audience in each of its four productions every year.  The theatre department at Lycoming College puts on ten to fifteen shows each season which range from classics to musicals and new dramatic material.  Each year students have the opportunity to write, direct and act in productions on campus.  There is also the opportunity for students to assist with lighting, set and costume design.
