NON-DEGREE STUDENT INFORMATION
(2008-09 Academic Year)
Registration
Persons who wish to take coursework and are not regularly enrolled as degree-seeking students at Lycoming College may apply for admission to any term as special non-degree students. Credits earned as a non-degree student are applicable toward a degree at Lycoming College when the student completes the degree application and is approved by the Admission Selection Committee. A maximum of 16 semester hours (4 units) may be taken as a non-degree student. *
The registration process starts in the Office of Admission (if a student has never taken any classes at Lycoming) OR the Registrar's Office (if a student has attended Lycoming College in the past). Registration for the 2008 fall semester and 2009 spring semester will begin on April 7, 2008 and November 24, 2008, respectively. Registration may be completed Monday through Friday, 9:00- 11:30 AM and 1:00 - 3:30 PM. Due to billing purposes, students are not able to register the two weeks prior to the start of the fall semester or the week prior to the start of the spring semester. Registration re-opens during the weeks of August 25, 2087 and January 12, 2009, respectively.
After completing the non-degree application, students are required to pay a 20% deposit of the total tuition to the Treasurer's Office (Long Hall, first floor). The balance of the tuition will be due August 1, 2008 for the Fall 2008 semester and December 12, 2008 for the Spring 2009 semester. After the deposit has been paid, the student will then need to register for the appropriate course(s) in the Office of the Registrar (Long Hall, first floor). Students must meet all prerequisites for courses.
Costs
Tuition for the 2008-09 fall/spring semesters is $882.00 per credit, or $3528.00 per four-credit course. The one-time application fee is $35.00. All full-time (12 or more credits) students are required to pay a $200 Contingency Deposit. Students should plan to pay between $50.00 and $200.00 for books per course. Some courses have laboratory fees. Financial aid is not available to non-degree students. ** All current high school students are charged half tuition, or $1,764.00 per four-credit course. High school students can audit the course (for no grade or college credit) for $441.00.
Placement Tests
Students pursuing coursework in math or the foreign languages are required to take the appropriate placement test(s) through the Office of the Assistant Dean for Freshmen before registering for the respective course. Math placement tests will be administered on the first day of the three scheduled summer orientation programs (June 9, 16, and 23, 2007) and the day before classes begin (Sunday, August 24, 2007 or Sunday, January 11, 2008). Please contact Regina Collins, Assistant Dean for Freshmen (321-4349 or collins@lycoming.edu), to schedule a placement exam or to request directions for completing the foreign language placement tests.
*After a non-degree student has attempted four unit courses (16 semester hours), the student must either matriculate or obtain special permission from the Dean of the College to continue study on a non-degree basis.
**Exception: Those students who are seeking certification in secondary and/or elementary education may be eligible for federal loan programs. Contact the Office of Financial Aid (321-4040) to see if you qualify.
