| WELCOME TO ACTUARIAL MATH
What exactly is Actuarial Math? It is an area of math that defines, analyzes, and solves business problems involving the likelihood of possible future events. So, in other words, it is an actuary who will project financial costs to medical agencies as a result of rising competition among health insurance companies or they might project how a seat belt law will affect insurance company claims.
At Lycoming, the Actuarial Mathematics major follows the recommendations of the Society of Actuaries and prepares students for a number of careers such as working for insurance companies, banks, labor unions, fraternal organizations, and large corporations while also giving students the core Lycoming College liberal arts curriculum.
The first half of the program consists of preparation in calculus and linear algebra, while the second half emphasizes statistics and
related
topics in accounting, economics, business, and
computer science. Once all major requirements
are fulfilled, students should be well prepared to sit for the beginning sequence of the examinations of the Society of Actuaries.
